Kopimi was established by the Piratbyrån, a Swedish organization with the purpose of preserving free trade of information. Kopimi was created as an alternative to copyright, which restricts this free trade of information. Under the current standards of copyright, one individual 'owns' the 'rights' of information they publish. It only makes sense that such control suppresses the concept of a global culture.

Kopimi can be used however you see fit. Naturally, the rules and guidelines are very lenient. It can be placed on a personal website, a blog, printed in books, used as audio-logos, or in any other creative fashion.

Placing Kopimi on a published work means "I want to be copied." Any works published under Kopimi are free to modify and reuse for any reason, commercial or otherwise.
